With the rapid pace of change in today’s digital world, there have been many changes occurring concerning the musical experience. The shifts from LP’s, to cassette tapes, to CDs, and now to today’s mp3 culture, have all brought significant alterations to what normal listening patterns are. Change, especially in the area of music, is always evident, but the pace of change currently dwarfs any period in time before. There have been obvious advantages to these changes, but there have also been elements of the classic listening experiences that have been pushed to the side.

The cold, digital nature of current music is in disagreement with the rich history of music. A middle ground may be achieved between the classic musical experience of a few years ago and the advantages of new digital tools. If we adapt the traditional elements of the home environment with new technologies and interfaces, we may be able to revive the richness of music’s past.
