the wii is near.  me and all of my friends are quite excited for finally a change in the industry.  Nintendo has always been innovative, but I really think they are going to hit a home run with the timing of the wii.  Sony, Microsoft, and whoever else who has more money than brains can go after the same old rat race video game market of bigger, stronger, faster. (the same market that pc’s will always win).  Nintendo is going the other direction.  They are making a system that is (shock) actually simply concerned with gameplay.  When you are just crapping out a new shooter with different maps every year, you really get to neglecting what games should be about…..gameplay.  Friends and I can still sit down and play frogs and flies or outlaw on atari for hours at a time….why ?  gameplay.  I can’t wait to play a surgery game where i have to remove organs in record time….or a pilotwings game where the wiimote is simply an extension of the wings.
one concern though.  in recent wii videos, they point the wiimote directly at the tv.  when you point as such there will definitely be wrist strain after only about 20 mins of playing.  I really don’t understand that if the wiimote has gyroscopic sensors, why don’t they make it to where you can make your own controller calibration to where your wrist sits as it normally would if you just rest your arm on the table.  Hopefully they have thought about this and adapted it to the system….otherwise they might have a few carpul tunnel law suits to deal with in a few years.
